195. Stephen Ward

Stephen followed his father into a farming career. He moved to Sidney House and Farm at Kynnersley in 1912 and built up the famous Kinnersley prize-winning herd of Fresian cattle.

Stephen was one of the founders of the Shropshire branch of the National Farmers' Union in 1908, and served as county chairman in 1917, 1922 and 1923 ("Portrait of a Shropshire Farming Family" from The Shropshire Magazine, July 1954).

Died 14 days after giving birth.


196. Joseph Philip Ward

Philip emigrated to South Africa as a young man. He was a Mining Engineer and managed a goldmine in South Africa. Towards the end of his life he changed career, bought a farm and took up farming.

Sam was a Farmer at Wilbrighton Hall, Newport, Salop


198. Thomas Charles Ward

TC farmed at Lubstree Park, Honnington and Lilleshall Grange farms - well over a thousand acres. In addition he made a name for himself in public life where he undertook a great number of honorary duties


199. Henrietta Christiana Ward

Hetty trained as a nurse in London. After her marriage she and Arthur lived in South Africa where she earned a reputation for herself in nursing. She was responsible for the building of 2 large hospitals in addition to the promotion of organisations for the protection of child life, the care of disabled and the extension of district nursing. For 6 years she served on the Cape Town City Council.


200. Richard Pedley Ward

Dick was also well known in the farming fraternity. He framed at Shushions Manor and was a leading figure in the Staffordshire Farmers' Union. He served on the Agricultural Executive Committee for the county in both world wars.


202. Annie Eva Ward

Anne was a Cambridge Graduate and married Gilbert while undertaking war work in USA. He was a Civil Engineer. EH Carr was a Historian and renowned Writer and also, for a number of years, a Diplomat.

209. Cecil Stephen Walley

"Cecil came to Canada in 1910 after graduating with a Bachelor ofEngineering degree from the University of Liverpool. Enlisted as aprivate in 1914, went overseas with the 44th Battalion and wastransferred to the 9th. Field Company, Canadian Engineers. After theBattle of Vimy Ridge he was awarded the Military Cross. Discharged in1919 with the rank of Captain. In WWII served for 5 years with the RCAFas Flight-Lieutenant and was in charge of the building of the CentralNavigation School at Rivers, Manitoba. Cecil met Nina at the University(she was the first female to earn a degree in Engineering from aUniversity). They had 10 children (1 died as an infant, 2 sons werekilled in WWII), their youngest son, Colin Sinclair Walley, is Fran'sfather."
